Attachment is a deep, enduring emotional bond connecting one person to another across time and space (Bowlby, 1969). For a parent and child, it can start well before birth, but the real work of developing healthy attachments starts once baby arrives—ready to connect, observing the world around him, with you at the center of it all. As you build the bond with your baby and help him build bonds with others, you are helping to encourage him to explore and connect to the world around him with confidence and curiosity.
Synchrony is an essential building block of attachment. It’s how attachment develops. Synchrony is the sharing of internal states through repeated, closely coordinated interactions between parent and baby such as affectionate touches, special vocalizations and eye contact. The quality of these early interactions will powerfully influence your baby’s sense of security and the way in which he approaches the world. By carefully tuning in to your baby’s signals you learn how to read him and respond appropriately, not only to meet his basic needs, but to experience synchrony and encourage your attachment relationship. The CuddleBright® Experience was designed to help foster these early interactions and to deepen the bond between you and your baby.
